10 REASONS I'm not married (?!)

So recently i was reading an interesting article called: 10 REASONS YOU'RE NOT MARRIED by Jenna Stone. I first clicked on it as a joke and then i started really analyzing her points.  LOL C'mon, i'm not married... it wouldn't hurt to know WHY!! ;)

Jenna Stone, did her homework and consulted the experts: Dr. Amir Levine, co-author, with Rachel Heller, of the book Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How It Can Help You Find -- And Keep --Love. A book, which after reading the article, i'd be pretty interested in reading.
“There is a science of how people behave in romantic situation, it's called adult attachment, only the studies have never been translated to everyday life use up until now.” —Levine
This book talks to three main attachment styles:
  1. Anxious - people are often preoccupied with their relationships and tend to worry about their partner’s ability to love them back.
  2. Avoidant - people equate intimacy with a loss of independence and constantly try to minimize closeness.
  3. Secure - people feel comfortable with intimacy and are usually warm and loving.

Find out which style you and/or your partner have: click here to take the author's quiz.
Trust me! It might open your eyes about how you treat your relationships. I know it did for me.
So, back to the summary of Jenna Stone's 10 points about possibly why I'm not married :
  1. Believing that playing hard to get will get them interested
  2. You're trying too hard.
  3. Thinking neediness is bad.
  4. You're stuck in a situationship.
  5. You're stuck on ''the one'' -- You have an ideal relationship in mind and won't let it go.
  6. You get addicted to highs and lows. You equate anxiety with passion and love.
  7. You're fixated on your mythological ex.
  8. You get stuck in a relationship with an impossible future. Long-distance, married, ''it's complicated.”
  9. You stay home, hoping they'll drop from the sky.
  10. You decide there has to be instant animal attraction, otherwise you're wasting your time.

Do any of these sound like you? I have to say quite a few resonated with me... i guess there's actually an explanation to why i'm not married, and these experts seem to have a few reasons why! All i can say, is that no one's perfect and i'm doing my best along the way! And... i'll buy this book and see what the hell i can do to avoid failure in the future!! hehehe

CRUSHIN

Who do you have a crush on? This praise for Andrea N.Richesin's new book has got me crushin`! I was just at Chapters this weekend -- i wish i had heard about this book a little sooner -- i would have picked it up!

A compilation of authors came together and spilled their guts about their candid crushes and sprightly romances. The book, CRUSH: 26 Real-Life tales of First Love, sounds fun, whimsical and a great addition to my summer reads. sigh.. and who doesn't like a good love story? Or 26 of them!!
Speaking of which: who was YOUR first crush?
Me, it goes back to elementary school. Third grade to be precise. He was the bad boy of my grade, and the guy of my dreams! Reid. I think it had to do with his authentic leather hockey jacket (think red and blue 1990s Lakeshore league! oooo so sexy!!), and his greasy rocker-style blond hair that was always swept over one eye.

And half way through grade 3, I don't know how it happened, but suddenly we were an item. He was interested in little, awkward, skinny me! We would walk around the school yard together at break, and he would give me his jacket to wear over my shoulders so that everyone knew i was his! I hardly understood what that meant -- only that he liked me and that everyone was calling us boyfriend-girlfriend. I would watch him play in the baseball field and cheer him on. I guess the cheerleader in me was there from early on!

Finally, summer came, and HIS mom called MY mom to see if i was free to go to a chaperoned movie night! I heard my mom answer the question saying that i was at a gymnastic show that Saturday, and she was sorry but i couldn't make it…
I was devastated !! How could my mom do this to me?! My dreams were crushed… and his mom never called again…

Then, Grade 4 started, and he had a new “love” interest; called Candace. In my mind, she was the prettiest girl in school.
But don't worry, even though it hurt… I moved on… and then started my crush on Jason!
Agh the drama of elementary school love!

I'm thinking of writing a book

So i'm thinking of writing a book... AS IF i have time, i know!
But it would be so much fun! It's just soooo funny when i get together with a good friend, grab a glass of wine, and we recap all the funny dates/exes i've had over the years: who can forget The Married Guy, The Naked Guy, The Australian! (that could be a whole book in itself, i've been holding out on you guys, i know!), The Guy who's girlfriend walked in on our date!!, The Car Guy!! I mean there's too many! I don't know if they'd fill up a whole book, but think of all the lessons I can talk about that I've learnt from each of those losers!!! I could go on forever! HAHA

Right now i'm so happy in my new found relationship, that you would think it would be soooo easy for me to forget all the craziness going on in the dating world. But OH NO CHICAS! i haven't forgotten the pool of men that are out there... in fact that “reality” reminds me everyday to work harder at the relationship i'm in so that i will hopefully never be thrown back into that “pool” LMAO. Let's cross our fingers on that one ;)

Roxy's Readings

So i finish my first book from the library! The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell.
What can i say?... it was cute, light and fun. Carrie is definitely not the va-va-voom shoe-obsessed crazy girl we've all come to love on Sex And The City, but what did i expect? In this book, Carrie's an insecure teenager, who just wants a boy to love her!

At least there's some comfort in knowing that we all go through awkward phases, and moments of insecurity, before BIG things happen in our lives. And also, to know, that when you want something bad enough, dreams do come true! So, if you want a book to read while sipping a daiquiri on the beach with your friends this summer, this is definitely a good pick! ...But, if you're looking for something deep and meaningful, this is not the one for you.
Oh and i just have to say that my favorite part of the whole book is the last line! For those that have read it, i'm sure you know what i mean. I won't ruin it for the rest of you! xo
So, NEXT, i have quite a few books on my list to read. I've already taken the big plunge and started The Passage by Justin Cronin. It's a sci-fi about vampires with a twist (so i'm told). And it's got rave reviews, including an advance praise from Stephen King. This book will take me a long time to read tho! I'm not a fast reader and it's 766 pages (hardcover!)! So... it might be a while before my next review! xo

Here's MY SEXY BOOK WORM LIST if you're looking for a new summer read:
Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert i want to read and know what all the fuss it about before it comes out in theaters!
Crazy Busy Beautiful by Carmindymy BFF bought this for me for my bday and even though i've started flipping through it, i want to read it properly from cover to cover!
It's Not Him, It's YOU by Christie Hartman, PhD This is my little secret book at the moment! I'm reading it simultaneously to other books and it's the best dating advice i've heard in years! Stay tuned!
The Other Side of The Story by Marian KeyesI haven't read many of  her novels, but some of my girlfriends love Keyes' writing. This one's on my bedside table waiting to be opened.

The Sexy Book Worm ;)

Ok, so when i was growing up, i was the biggest book worm you could find! I even won awards through the public library for MOST SUMMER READINGS! And the prize was more books! I was so excited!
Then life happens. You grow up. Things get complicated. You fall in love with boys. Then boys break your heart. You Facebook. You tweet. You party. You drink. You fill your life with great girl friends. And then you realize somewhere along the way, that you still love to read...
Now it's summer, and one of my favorite things to do is read a book. Either on my balcony, on a Starbucks terrace (yes, you all know the Monkland one's my favorite!), or at the park. I feel happy being outside and reading. Maybe it goes back to growing up, and reading by my parents pool... either way, it calms me. In this digital world, of blogs (!), Facebook, Twitter, online dating, etc etc. It gives me a second to ground myself, and escape the stress of “life”.

So on this note, today i joined the library. I haven't been a library member since i was a kid. It was actually very exciting. It blew my mind. I walked out of the library with a newly published book (The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell), a trashy magazine, a Yoga DVD and a romantic comedy to watch tonight.... all for free!! I kinda felt like I might set off the alarms as i walked out! I hadn't given them ANY money and i got all this!

So all that to say, checkout my new sidebar tab ====>>
so you can see which book i'm currently reading. And if it interests people, i could even give it my 5-star rating once i've finished it to let you know if it's worth a read!
Either way, i'm trying to find things in my life that relax me and that don't revolve around my computer! Don't get me wrong, I love writing for my blog, but all girls need to find a balance! xo

Naughty Girl

One book that i HAVE to give props to, that i ♥ , and i will continuously quote from, is The Naughty Girl's Guide to Life (Tara Palmer-Tomkinson&Sharon Marshall).
From ROXY

It's a book that i bought on holiday in the UK last year; to pass the time on my 8hr flight home. Little did i know what kind of impact this book would have on me!
This amazing book helped me get over a nasty breakup and got me “mentally prepared” to start dating again. It's a guide to being the most fabulous “you” you can be!

Thx Tara & Sharon ♥
