What does XMAS mean to you?

As we're on the cusp of Christmas, i want to remind us all to think about what this time of year is really about...
Think about what made you happy as a child.
For me, it was the snow falling to the ground, the smell of my mom's Christmas cookies, the anticipation of the gifts under the tree, the magic of Santa Clause, giggling with my brother and sister, sitting in front of the sparkling Xmas tree, talking to my family in the U.K over the phone...

It's hard to keep that blissful mindset as an adult, and it's easy to get caught in the hustle and bussle of the Holidays...

This morning, I'm preparing myself for the last push: the last visit to the mall; the last minute wrapping... but i'm trying to appreciate every moment... the snow falling outside, the lights of my tree, the sound of the xmas music, anticipating time with family and friends, and all the love in my life.
And I'll also be donating to a new charity as i do every year. This year i've chosen Mission in Action see Davina + Daniel's story here. You can shop from Davina+Daniel's ETSY shop, and until December 31st all the purchases will go directly towards Mission in Action, to build a new orphanage for the kids they visited in Africa.

I encourage you all to think about what will make you feel good this holiday season.

What does Christmas mean to you?

Happy Holidays friends xx

Christmas Spirit...

The lights are up... the tree is glittering (ok only half way for now, pics to come when it's done)... presents are underneath it; ready to be wrapped... snow is on the ground... holiday songs are playing in the air... xmas movies on TV... but no xmas spirit to be found...
Makes me wonder... where does this “spirit” come from anyway?
Will it suddenly hit me?
OR maybe this year is a year, where, instead, i'll be thankful for the people in my life... and think back on this whirlwind of a year that just happened... I'll hug my mom when she's thinking of her mom who passed away. I'll hug the new friends i've made, and kiss the ones i've always had. Especially my best friend... she might just need a few extra kisses she can share with her new puppy. I'll put up some mistletoe just so that i can have another romantic kiss with my boyfriend. I'll be thankful for him, my family, my friends and all of our health. I'll send cards to my family in England, and tell my grandad i love him. I'll bring my godson toys on xmas day and kiss him til he giggles and pushes me away. I'll be thankful to see a good friend and pray for her health every night. I'll fight the bad weather and make the extra effort to see the ones that i love.

Maybe that's all xmas is about anyway... Loving the ones I love. Not because i'm supposed to. But because i can.   And maybe then... the magic of xmas will surround me...

Thinking back to your most serious relationship, what would u say was your biggest sacrifice and was it worth it? What would u do different with the next serious prospect in your life?

OMG this is a good, but hard question...
i think the biggest SACRIFICE i made in my past relationships has been my independence. It's NOW something that i cherish closely and feel very comfortable with, so in future relationships i think will always try to keep that aspect of myself alive and well. It's not just because you have a guy that the rest of your life stops! There are so many wonderful things to do ! Friends, family, traveling, work, sports, etc.
Obviously having a supportive, caring man is of HUGE importance, but just don't lose yourself in it ladies! That would be my advice for now!

I am Thankful...

I was writing back and forth to a friend the other day, talking about how i was feeling down. We all do sometimes. It's normal. Especially at this time of year... the winter blues have set in.

She made me realize, however, how much i have to be thankful for. It's important to me, and probably to us all, that we remind ourselves of things that are great in our life.

Little things, big things. We need to have appreciation of everything in our lives.
Here are a few of the things i am thankful for today... What are yours?

  1. My mom --- it's her birthday today!
  2. The adrelaline rush cheerleading stunts give me when i don't get injured...
  3. Having a job to go to on a Monday morning even if i don't WANT to get up on a Monday morning
  4. My new Matt & Nat purse  hmmm did i not mention that i went shopping last week?
  5. My hot athletic therapist i'm seeing tonight  for treatment purposes only i swear ;)

Roxy's New Year's Resolution

From ROXY
Hmmm i've been thinking about this one for a few weeks now...
What do i REALLY want to focus on in this New Year? ...finding my Mr.Right... workout to get my body healthier... less stress... eat better... spend less... pay off debts... save for all those wonderful things i want and places i want to go... spend more time with the ones i love... drink less (and don't make a fool of myself at Office Xmas Parties!!!)...

So... when it comes down to it, i just want to improve on ME. Improve myself in many facets of life. There's not ONE thing i need or want more than all the others.

So, can my New Year's Resolution simple be : BE A BETTER ME.?
I think i'll have less chance of failing that way too. Some things are bound to work, and some things will take more time (like the whole no drinking thing...i mean, who are we kidding here?).

I think overall this past year was SO much fun! I did alot alot of things, and i've been busy almost every second of the year. Literally. You can ask my colleagues! I mean, after all, i was getting over a breakup for part of the year. Everyone's allowed some fun, right? But, with dwindling amounts in my bank account, i think the responsible Roxy needs to come out to play for a little while. So, maybe instead of going out for drinks with my bestest, i should stay at home and make her a martini instead. You meet a lot less guys that way... but cmon' it's -28 degrees outside anyway. How many guys are going to find you attractive with an Eskimo jacket and woolly toque on anyway?? The guy i'm seeing (who you all know as : Tiger) thinks i look like a Rastafarian with one of my winter toques on... that can't be good! but, i don't care, it's cold!

So, all this to say that i think i need to take a little time to chill and be a better me this year. Less frivolous spending, more quality time with family and friends, healthier eating, and yes, i'll try to cut-down on the drinking! I think that's the best New Year's Resolution i can make for myself :)

On that note: HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
Be responsible at all your parties tonight, i know i will ;)
Let 2010 be your year of love, sex and magic!! hehe

All about me : Roxy

Hello all Sexy Chicas who are reading my new blog!
I invite you to read the few blog posts I have to get acquainted with me a little bit. I promise i'll get better at writing ;) I sometimes go too fast and forget important details: details you girls would like to know. (Got suggestions? contact me and lmk!)
But for starters, I can tell you a little bit about the real Roxy ;)
From ROXY
I'm 28 years old.... and starting to feel the close-to-30-itch... but at the same time, trying hard not to panic. I grew up, playing with my beautiful Barbies, thinking that by 24 i'd have found the man of my dreams; 25 i'd have the perfect house; 27 the babies will come, and by 30 i would just have the most blissful life.
Ya, no. I learnt quickly that life doesn't work that way.
I've had some pretty serious relationships in the past. First serious boyfriend lasted 3 years. The next one lasted 5 years. We lived together for 2 of those years. I thought moving in together was the most logical option, because i was 22... and i was due soon for my happily ever after right? Wrong. Things didn't work out that way. It ended one dark and gloomy xmas night. Seriously.

Then the dating world opened up to me. I had some funny experiences (we'll get to those), one significant long distance one (VERY long distance: Australia) , had the summer of my life, and in the end, met Mr.Perfect. Or... so i thought. He was everything i wanted in a nutshell, and then it ended abruptly right before our one year mark: with him seeing his ex behind my back and not being ready for the next steps in our relationship. He freaked out. It broke my heart. And thank god i had my friends and my sister to help me out of the gloom&doom. I'm proud to say, that it took a while, but i'm soooo over it.

So, then... that's where all the fun began! I've learnt that you have no idea what life's going to throw at you! It's been a rollercoaster of a year; good dates, bad dates, horrible dates, online dates, phone dates... u name it, i've been there. Heck, tomorrow i have a date in Granby! (no, not at the zoo, but that was my first thought too...lol)

My friends have enjoyed my dating stories so much that they couldn't wait for me to start this blog!! And i hope that all the ppl out there who don't know me personally, will come to enjoy my stories as if you're one of my friends. Feel free to write comments, you're own experiences and stories -- god knows that we've all had them!! You'll feel better knowing that you're not the only one looking for Mr.Right and finding Mr.Wrong all over the place!!

Enjoy the stories chicas and live life to the fullest! xo
