Appreciation

I got a humbling surprise in the mail yesterday. A good friend of mine who lives in Toronto sent me a snail mail letter about how much she appreciates me; “the top 5 reasons why i'm awesome”. lol

At first she made me laugh, but by the end i was in tears. It's rare these days that we tell each other how we feel. We have so much technology available, but somehow it seems that this only allows us to be more disconnected from each other. It honestly felt good to know how much someone appreciates me, and to have it said in handwritten letter makes it so much more personal.

I'm guilty of not calling friends i used to call because i see how they're doing on Facebook. But they don't know that i care/think about them. And let's be honest, a phone call or coffee date with a friend is A MILLION TIMES better than a “Facebook like”.

On this note, i will not allow myself to ONLY use my blog or Facebook to say much i care about my friends. I will make it my mission to tell them/show them, in some way, how much i love and appreciate them.

Thank you Val xx You really made my day yesterday!

Shop Til We Drop

I'm in Mississauga this weekend, visiting my friend Val. The 6 hour drive wasn't so bad yesterday. Lots of sun, salt on the roads, and 16 lanes of traffic through Toronto rush hour!!

But I made it and the girls weekend began!

Lots if girl talk, catching up, gossiping, pizza and wine! A great way to start a weekend!

24hrs later, we're now lying on the living room couches with our feet up; exhausted! We went shopping for 5 hours today at Square One Mall, and we shopped til we dropped!!

I spent way more than I should have, but it was so much fun! Especially at Victoria's Secret! Their Semi-Annual Sale always gets my heart pumping ;)

I'm already on my way home already tmrw. These weekends are always short and sweet. I will enjoy tonight and tmrw, then it's back to reality and to my beau, who I miss like crazy xx

Enjoy your weekends peeps, I know I am! xo

Recap: Girls Weekend in TO!

Here's the recap of my awesome girls' weekend!! I visited my friend Val in Mississauga for girls talk, wine drinking, gossiping, shopping and tanning :)

Only hard thing about the weekend was all the driving... I'm recovering from the 5.5hr drive x 2 in 48hrs. That's alot for one single girl!  But Rihanna, Hedley and many other randoms kept me in good company during the drive! ;)

RECAP of FUN TIMES:
• Arriving Friday late at night (after watching the disappointing England World Cup game... no comment)
• Saturday was wine day -- i discovered a whole world of wine in Niagra on the Lake (beautiful area!). Bought 2 bottles of wines that i loved (ok so, i will just drink these bottles and THEN be off the booze for good like i promised! HAHA

• My friend and I had an awesome organic lunch at a restaurant in a vineyard with a gorgeous view of the valley. I need to send my sister there! She'd love it!

• We ordered Szechuan delivery for supper, and rented When in Rome on Rogers demand (cute!). Perfect lazy end to a busy day!
• Sunday we got up and shop shop shopped til we dropped! Or, actually until my credit card couldn't take any more!! HAHA So many nice new things -- including gorgeous shoes! ... i just couldn't resist. Damn i'm bad. Oh well, happy belated birthday to me!! lol
• Sunday yummy lunch and afternoon spent by Val's pool. Soooo relaxing in the sun. So much in fact that i didn't realize the time go by, and had to rush around when i realized it was already 4:45! I left at 5:15 for my long drive back home solo...
• P.S. Thank god for RedBull when ur tired driving at night!
• P.P.S. McDs isn't a good idea to eat twice in one weekend...

Home sweet home! thanks for the weekend Val! Always so much fun! xo

Bday weekend!

I don't really know where to start with this recap of the crazy bday weekend i had. Everything that COULD have been disastrous ended working out fine, and all in all, i had a great night/weekend!

Originally, this post was going to carry the main message: that i REALLY am not drinking anymore. But looking at my literary for NEXT weekend … that message would end up being a lie. HAHA Next weekend i'm visiting a good friend in Toronto, and she's organized a special wine touring day, that evidently, includes ALOT of wine!! But i figure, it's not binge drinking, so i should be fine. ;) Let's see if my liver feels differently.

So getting back to this past weekend.
Friday was an awesome supper with my closest friends. Reservations were a disaster with Vauvert. I will never book there again. Loved the restaurant the last time i went, but the way they handled my reservation this time was really disappointing.

What happened was: Thursday night, i had to find another restaurant within 24hrs on GrandPrix weekend for 15 people, because Vauvert were suddenly insisting on charging 75$ per person for a special Porsche evening! ( i'd had reservations for over 2 weeks and this was never mentioned previously to me) AGH! Impossible to find somewhere new! Restos in the West Island were laughing at me over the phone! Thank god for having great connections, otherwise everything would have been cancelled! A good colleague/friend of mine helped me out during my hour of crisis, and got me reservations in the Old Port at a resto called GRANGE. If you're ever looking for a place with great drinks, great food and amazing service, on the cusp of the Old Port (McGill), you should go to this place. Freakin awesome! I give it rave reviews! and i think my friends would agree. thanks Ari for hooking it up -- it was an awesome birthday present!

The night was perfect. All my friends made it, even my BFF who had heart surgery last tuesday was there! What a trooper! I am so happy to simply see her smile again :) My sister made it on crutches. My brother who's usually MIA made a huge effort to come as well: out of his normal routine of downtown college bars ;) Even my suburban friends found a babysitter for the night -- sweet !

So, then there was family day on Saturday i won't bore everyone with those details. But we did watch the World Cup England game, that was slightly disappointing with Green's performance (click to see) I can't bear to watch it again.. My heart goes out to the guy… really embarrassing. I don't care if his girlfriend broke up with him right before; there's no excuse for letting that goal in!

So, Saturday night, the party was on again. This time, at a friends place who just moved to the downtown core. Literally on the corner of Sherbrooke and St.-Laurent. It was insane with the Grand Prix parties everywhere. We cabbed it there and back, with my sister on crutches and the city in gridlock. It was fun! You should SEE the place this girl has -- i'm jealous E!  By the time the night ended, i had to crash on my sisters couch...

The whole next day was horrible with hangover sickness…
I'm 29 now… my body has spoken. It hates alcohol…
...and unfortunately, it's now making me listen to it's nonsense. A few glass of wine with dinner (or at a wine tasting!), but no more than that… I've turned over a new leaf. The damage it does to my body and feeling of the day after just isn't worth it anymore :( Sorry peeps; there's many of you who love 'drunk Roxy' , but this is definitely the end of an era.

My 3 & Their Weddings

So, one of my best friends is planning her wedding for next September, and will probably be preggers the morning after. I'm having a blast helping her with anything she needs :)

Wedding planning is REALLY a fun time with a close friend. I've been through it twice in the past and it's some of the fondest memories i hold dear... Wedding dress shopping, invitation designing, paper cutting!! and gluing !! (table placings, thank you cards, invitations), bridesmaid dress shopping (and arguing!), bridal shower planning, bachelorette craziness!, the hair, the makeup and looking super fabulous together :)

This wedding will pretty much wrap up all the “coupling up” of my closest friends. My other 2 best friends got married almost 3 years ago now, both have wonderful houses, dedicated husbands; one has a 17 month yr old (my cutie godson), and the other is beautifully preggers (due this May). I love these 3 girls to death ♥ K,A&J xo

I consider myself sooo lucky to have these chiquitas in my life, among the handful of other super amazing friends i have. I think you get to a point in your life when you realize how lucky you really are to have people around who love you. Who love you for WHO you are. No makeup, no fronting.
They love you on the worst days; when your mascara's running down your face, when you're so plastered you can't put on your own boots, or when all you want to do is call the ex that broke your heart. I don't know what i would do without my friends.
I hope one day, to be planning a wedding of my own... I'm not convinced that's ever going to happen at this point, but “my 3” are, so it gives me hope. I know i will have the best bridesmaids in the world, because they've all gone through the steps. And they also all know that i hate “planning”, so i'll have tons of help there! My awesome sister, who i haven't mentioned in this post because she deserves a post all to herself, will one day be my beautiful maid of honor. And even though she doesn't have the experience yet, of wedding planning, maybe by then she will have! Either way, she knows me in and out, so to have her by my side will be the biggest re-assurance i could ask for.

I consider myself an extremely lucky girl to be a part of these girls lives. And i hope they know how much i love them.

If YOU feel lucky to have great friends in your life, don't forget to tell them. Tell them right now. In person, through a phone call, an email, a text, or in a blog post! Tell them. They deserve to know how amazing they are.

LOVE YOU ALL xox
Thank you Val for always being there for me, for helping me get back on my feet, through all the drama and heartache. For the Godiva chocolates on the days i need a long-distance hug, and for inviting me to TO everytime i need to escape my life! Thank you Julie for being there to heal my broken heart, when i had hurt you more without realizing it...
Thank you Jo for being there and making me get out of bed when i didn't want to go on... Thank you Katie for taking me into your family, cooking me supper, driving me anywhere and everywhere, being there whenever i need a shoulder to cry on, or just some company. Thank you Anastasia&Kiran for being so protective and loving me so much, regardless of my craziness, and making me the Godmother of your amazing child! Thank you James for being a guy that i can trust and lean on when everything seems to go wrong in my day. And for taking care of me the next day when YOU get me plastered the night before!!! Thank you Suli for being able to understand the trials and tribulations of being single! We'll make it through this together! lol

I was tweeting aimlessly the other day and the trending topic was “things not to say on a first date” — i thought i had heard some bad lines from my dating experience, but some of the things people were coming up with were hilarious! I was almost late to work cuz i couldn't stop reading.

Weekend of Fun!!

Are you guys as excited as i am to see New Moon??!! Hells ya! Even though the movie's probably nowhere near as great as the book, you can definitely still enjoy the hotness! My plan is to head to Toronto next weekend and watch New Moon with another devoted fan, ValTheCityGal ;) We're going to have an ultimate girlie weekend and it's going to rock! I'm sure Val will write an in-depth blog post about it: she is a great writer and doesn't let any detail go un-noticed! Let's not let any secrets slip ok Val? hehe ;)

Wonder what's on the itinerary....?

I'll give you guys a recap when i get back!! xo

Friends with an ex...

Ok, so i just want to say that it is POSSIBLE, you CAN be friends with an ex (5 years later when you've both moved on of course). A few weeks ago I spent 12 hours in a car with my ex-boyfriend, driving to T.O, and it was just like driving with an old friend :)

Think of it this way: you already have your inside jokes, there's no uncomfortable silences, and he knows when you need to eat before you get grouchy!

I feel proud that after all the BS we've been through, that we've got to the point in our friendship, where we can just be. Just enjoying each other's company with no sexual tension and no messy emotional baggage! Never thought i'd see the day, but i'm glad i did. We're actually planning another trip to see our friends again mid-November !
Who'da thunk THAT 5 years ago eh girls?!
Oh, and please note that NOT all ex's deserve your friendship after a break-up! This “being friends with an ex-thing” might represent a very small percentage of cases! Beware of all the ass-hole ex's you may have that don't deserve your kind friendship!
